MOMA 2000: Open Ends

Posted on Friday, January 29, 2010 by Josh Rocker

Moma concludes its wrap on Modernism with some very contemporary and recognisable work from the past century refreshingly grouped into quirky thematic sections rather than chronologically. 'Innocence and Experience', 'Matter', 'One Thing After Another' and 'Pop and After' bring together diverging modern artists such as Andy Warhol, Rem Koolhaus, Claes Oldenburg, Lichtenstein, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, Pipilotti Rist and Jeff Koons. The curators may have woven a web of comparison, but you can untangle it all yourself.

The Nutcracker

By New Year's Eve you are bound to be sick to your back teeth of this Christmas ballet. Yet it's hard not to enjoy Tchaikovsky's unforgettable music which is danced with passion by the Moscow Classical Ballet in this performance. The costumes and scenery for this traditional production's Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara and her Nutcracker Prince are fabulous. It's a magical holiday custom that, like it or not, can't be missed.

Independent Travel versus Package Vacations

Posted on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 by Josh Rocker

Sadly, there is not just one answer to this quandary, because it relies on where you wish to go, and what deals will be available at the time. This is a far better deal than I might have arranged on my, since airfare alone would have cost over $700.

The secret of this great deal was the relationship of the tour operator with Egypt air and the hotel at which we stayed.

There are likewise wonderful deals for many Asian locations, especially India, China and Taiwan. Do not give up hope there are great deals out there if package deals are too costly or are not your thing, and it is usually a better choice, especially if you're traveling by yourself. One significant tip is to discover precisely what is and is not included in any package deal that you are considering. Try and get a detailed daily schedule to make certain you will not be on your own if you do not buy into the options. It is also an excellent idea to request a list of the optional outings available, including outlines and costs, so you can compare what the price would be to what you might organize on your own. The main thing to recollect is that there are just a certain number of first come, first serve seats the publicized low fares, and if you wait too long you will not get the lower rate. It's important to reserve your airfare and your lodging as early as is possible to be certain you get the best available costs. In the final analysis, the choice whether to select a package deal or independent travel an individual call based on the traveler's situation. Make efforts to scrupulously compare package costs with those for independently organizing travel to the same destination.

And do not forget to take your own private travel style into account. Some folk are way more cut out for a packed tour, especially to a new destination, while others like the freedom from itineraries that independent travel offers.

Hallmark World Professional Figure Skating Championships

This championship is what all the Olympic figure skaters get excited about when their medal-winning careers are over. There will be four divisions of competition - ladies, men, pairs and dance - which will all feature medal winners like Tara Lipinski, Oksana Baiul, Surya Bonaly, Rudy Galindo and Alexi Urmanov. This will be the first time such a competition will be held at the downtown MCI Center, and as such, makes the Championships quite a coup for Washington-area sports promoters.
